Fabley took a simple idea, and transformed it into an epic time-traveling saga of a Viking who just couldn't find his way home!
I have pretty cool hobbies. One of them is creating comics. Sounds simple, right? Except, sometimes, it’s not. Like that time I got stuck on a character for weeks. He was a Viking. An awesome one. Somehow trapped in the modern world. And he only wanted to go home. Now, how on Earth could an AI Character Generator get a Viking to travel through time?
Well, it was hard.
I’ve always loved comic books. Now, combine that with a love for mythology and history. What you’ll end up with is probably an idea for a character. It was supposed to be this awesome Viking guy, in my case. He somehow got lost in our modern world. I’m sure the idea is not original. Still, I wanted to do it.
And he was as Viking as it gets. Big beard, long hair, the whole deal. But I just couldn’t imagine him. I had the story. A warrior called Bjorn. Trapped in the 21st century. Desperately searching for a way back to his own time.
It’s full of funny moments clashing with modern life. A lot of epic battles in front of him. Battles with not-so-epic things. Traffic jams, air pollution, an AI Character Generator, and so on. You know, all things Viking! But Bjorn was nowhere to be found. For weeks
Opening the Fabley app feels like stepping into a new world. At least for me.
It isn’t complicated, though. You just go to the “Create” tab of the app and type in your prompt. The rest of it is pure AI Character Generator magic.
I also wanted Fabley to really show how different everything would feel for Bjorn. Even ridiculous stuff like not knowing what to think about a hamburger. And I got just what I needed. In a classic comic book style.
Fabley has options for that, too. You can generate photorealistic images, manga-style, comic book, and so on. I went with a comic book style, naturally. After all, that’s what I’m here for. Although, it handled the other styles amazingly well, too.
Then, the magic happened. I clicked “Generate,” and there he was. Bjorn the Bewildered. A burly Viking with a thick beard. Surrounded by a river of cars. The surprised expression on his face made me laugh hard. He had a chipped tooth as well. I don’t know how that happened. But I loved it. He was perfect!
There’s a thing I absolutely love about Fabley. It does more than you ask. In a good way.
Fabley’s AI Character Generator doesn’t just give you a picture. It gives you context.
That’s what I mean by “a step further.” I’ve used a couple of AI Character Generators so far. Sometimes they do good, and sometimes they don’t.
But they’ve never given me something as epic as a Viking who loves hot cocoa. It just fits. He’s goofy anyway. Don’t take that for granted, though. You really don’t want to mess around with him.
But then I had another thought. “Wait, how is Bjorn talking to people? Nobody speaks Old Norse.”
“He is stuck in the modern world. Nobody speaks his language. What now?”
Immediately, Fabley suggested that Bjorn make some friends. Historians, time-travel enthusiasts, and so on. No, it’s too obvious. However, the AI Character Generator created an image. It was Bjorn and his new friends.
That gave me an idea. One of the friends he created looked super goofy. Goofier than Ross Geller. That’s it! A professor of history and linguistics! Someone who speaks his language!
And his name was Milton Bookworm. From that point on, the characters began writing themselves. A simple question can bring so much fun. “What is Bjorn doing when Milton is not around?“
There were so many ideas in my head. More than I could manage to remember.
Fabley has expanded on my ideas so many times. It often gave me new ones as well.
The idea for Bjorn, in particular, wasn’t created by an AI Character Generator. It already existed in my head. But what Fabley did was expand on it. Sometimes, all you need is a push in the right direction. That’s exactly what happened with the images and next steps that the app gave me.
And Bjorn isn’t the only one. Since then, I’ve created a lot of characters. Not just for my comics. For Dungeons and Dragons sessions, for example. It’s a great tool for that. Video game characters. NPCs. I know people who use Fabley for work as well.
Bottom line, Bjorn the Bewildered managed to get home in the end. I can’t reveal the whole story here. Even if I wanted to, it’s just too long. Let’s just say that there is a chamber underneath the city library. I won’t tell you which city. In this chamber, you can find all sorts of wonders. And they are all kept under strict watch. Among them, there is a time-traveling portal with a lot of armed guards around it.
How did Bjorn do it? Well, he is bewilderingly good at fighting. No pun intended.
Maybe Milton Bookworm gets stuck in Bjorn’s time next. Who knows.
Inspiration waits just around the corner. This is just a story of how Fabley’s AI Character Generator helped a Viking travel through time. I’m sure thousands of other, even more interesting stories are out there.
